THE TRUNK
Love notes upon weathered pages,
kept through the ages,
ready to crumble into dust,
and float way with the winds gust.
Ageless rose pressed between a book,
yellowed picture of how we used to look,
secrets within a diary, behind a lock,
of remembered kisses and midnight walks.
Heart-shaped box, received on Valentine's Day,
once filled with chocolate candy,
bound with a strand of lace,
brings to mind your loving face.
Golden locket, now within my hand,
a reminder of shattered dreams, no wedding band,
all these treasures, locked away,
within the trunk so old and gray.
this was before I met Russ.
